The story of Chandrakumar Ayurvedics begins in 1920, in the village of Perumudiyur (Pattambi), where Velu Vaidyar was a respected physician celebrated for his mastery in traditional healing practices. His expertise spanned treatments for arthritis, skin conditions, eye disorders, and pediatric diseases. Beyond medicine, he was skilled in Kalari (martial arts), self-defense techniques, and ancient healing mantras.
In 1925, his son K.V. Kumaran Vaidyar was born. After completing his education, he trained under his father’s guidance and later under the esteemed Ayurvedic physician Poruthiyil Madhavan Vaidyar. Kumaran Vaidyar began his independent practice in Kadangode, where he also served as an office bearer of the Ayurveda Mandalam—an association committed to promoting Ayurvedic practice.
Kumaran Vaidyar obtained an L2 license to manufacture Ayurvedic medicines and launched Chandrakumar Pharmacy. The product range included Asava, Arishta, Kashaya, Gutika, Rasayana, Ghritha, Churna, Tailam, Kuzhampu, Arka.
These formulations were based on original preparation by Velu Vaidyar and prepared under his direct supervision. Medicines were never produced unless all ingredients were available, reflecting the family’s unwavering commitment to quality, authenticity, and efficacy. Kumaran Vaidyar’s wife also mastered the preparation process, ensuring tradition was preserved.
Following Velu Vaidyar’s passing, the next generation upheld the family tradition. Dr. Aarathi S Kumar, the family’s daughter-in-law, now plays a key role in the operations of Chandrakumar Ayurvedics, supported by a team of experienced Ayurvedic doctors.
